Woodstockshop provides you with all the essential information you need to know to maintain your board as well as a small list of essential accessories. It is important to properly maintain your board & wetsuit to keep them in good condition for as long as possible.
- A cover or sock cover surf board is very practical to avoid scratches or small dents on the board. Avoiding having to repair your board unnecessarily is priceless! Very practical for travel too, covers for 3-4 boards exist to protect your boards as much as possible during transport. Find our covers and socks here.
- Wax , a very important element. Without it, you risk having your worst session... Originally wax-based, the wax is applied to the board to prevent the feet from sliding on the deck of the board. There are different waxes depending on the water temperature. The hotter the water temperature, the harder the wax will be. Conversely, the colder the water temperature, the more flexible the wax will be. Depending on the water temperature and the texture of the wax, it will be more or less easy to apply it to your surfboard. Consider if you can add an undercoat of "base coat" (especially in summer), this optional undercoat is applied exactly like wax but it is very hard and allows successive layers of wax to stick well. on your board.
Info: It is advisable to "dewax" your board from time to time to prevent successive layers of wax from accumulating unnecessarily, which could make the board heavier. Also useful during the change of season when the water temperature varies. This allows you to refurbish your board and have the right wax depending on the season in which you surf. To remove it, you can place your board in the sun for a few minutes and the heat will gently melt the wax which you can then easily remove with the smooth part of a wax comb. Using hot water also works (not too hot!). Also practical: the wax remover sold in a small liquid container which allows you to dewax quickly and well! Last resort: Essence F which works well but will be much less ecological and smells very strong.
- The leash , an accessory not to be forgotten before your session. The leash attaches to your ankle (that of the foot located at the back of the board). The left foot for goofy , the right foot for the regular . It is attached directly to the back of your board and prevents you from losing your board in the event of a fall. There are different sizes of leashes depending on the size of your board or the size of the waves you are surfing. It is recommended by default to take the same length of leash as the length of your board. Ex: 6 foot board, 6 foot leash . Find our leash ranges here.
- The pad or "grip" is an accessory often used by intermediate to advanced surfers on high-performance boards in particular. Generally used at the back of your board as a priority (but also at the front if you wish with a front pad), it has the same role as wax: not to slip. It provides better grip than wax thanks to its foam material and its texture. Very often used on shortboards, the pad provides a pivot point on the rear foot, ideal for performing explosive maneuvers and turns. The front pad is used more and more, with the same principle as the (rear) pad, it allows you to have a very good grip on the board, under the front foot. Find our ranges of pads here.
- Drifts allow you to control the board and take it in the direction you want on the wave. They act as a rudder like on a boat. There are several systems allowing you to put from 1 to 5 fins. The number or placement of fins allows you to surf different types of boards and different types of waves. Find our ranges of fins here .
- Repair kit , Breakage can happen... and when you have to repair your board without experience and without equipment it quickly becomes complicated. Repair kits are very useful when it comes to small dents or cracks. Very easy to apply, the UV resin dries in a few minutes in the sun. A little sanding by hand before applying the resin and after to make the repair clean and that's it! Please note there are kits for Polyester (PU) and Epoxy resin boards. Choose carefully depending on the material of your board! Find our kits here .
- RinseKit , What's better than the Rinsekit after a good session to rinse yourself and your equipment. Perfect for going on a road trip too, the Rinsekit is a portable, self-contained pressure shower that allows you to shower anywhere after a good surf session. Find our products here .
- Wetsuit Shampoo , A shampoo for wetsuits, which eliminates salt residue and bad odors while maintaining the stretch of the neoprene. Find our shampoo here
- Wax comb , Small tool to have in your car if you are short of wax or find that your layer of wax lacks grip and texture. This comb will bring the wax back to life by texturing it further to create small “bumps” allowing your feet to avoid slipping. This allows you to have a better grip without necessarily using another layer of wax. Discover our products here.
- Waterproof pouch for smartphone or keys , Always complicated to know where to put your keys during the session or protect your phone at the beach. The waterproof pouch helps protect your keys or phone while practicing a water sport. Discover our different waterproof pouches here.
- Key and small useful tools: Don't forget to carry a Wrench for the fins - Generally universal and in "Allen Key" format (FCS/Futures). It allows you to screw/unscrew the fins. If you have a US BOX box (longboard or mid-length) you will probably need a screwdriver to screw and unscrew your fin from its US BOX box. Multi-tool surf tools exist and are very practical!
