TRUEAMES

The story of True Ames began one afternoon 1979 on the famous Rincon spot. Chuck Ames then found a flyer announcing the sale of a company manufacturing fins and that was the trigger... Chuck's craftsmanship skills developed quickly, partly helped by Greg Liddle (Liddle surfboards) who explained to him how the surfboard works. a drift and the characteristics changing the behavior of the board on the wave.
In the 1985s, True Ames' knowledge of fin shape began to be very advanced.

The company begins a collaboration with Channel Island and the excesses develop even more. The effectiveness of this new collaboration was highlighted by Tom Curren's crowning of world champion the same year. The company seeks all possible sources of inspiration, it also worked with George Greenough , who designed and created the first modern fin shape, itself inspired by the dorsal fin of a dolphin from which he took the outline. But True Ames did not only work on the development of modern surf fins, always in partnership with renowned shapers and craftsmen, the company also designed longboard fins whose shapes still remain widely used by “classic” longboarders . The fins also bear the name of the shapers with which they were developed. You can thus obtain the single fins "Yater" (Reynolds Yater", "Skip Frye", "Velzy" (Dale Velzy) and even Greenough (George Greenough) which you will find on our website.
