In 1960, after returning to California from Hawaii, Dewey Weber founded Weber Surfboards in Venice Beach, where he began producing boards with names such as "Weber Performer" and "Weber Pig." Weber hired his highly regarded shaper, Harold Iggy, and assembled a team of surfers who he sent to surf competitions. Weber appeared in almost every surfing film of the late 1950s and early 1980s, and he became the symbol of the American Surfing Association.
